Otep

Otep is an American metal band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2000, led by vocalist and poet Otep Shamaya. Known for their aggressive blend of nu-metal, alternative metal, and spoken word, the band’s music often explores themes of personal empowerment, politics, and social justice. Otep gained attention with their debut album Sevas Tra (2002) and has since released several critically acclaimed records, including Smash the Control Machine (2009) and Kult 45 (2018). Shamaya’s powerful lyrics, blending rage with activism, have made Otep a prominent voice in the metal scene, known for their unapologetic stance on controversial issues.
