Noam Pikelny is an American banjoist and composer, widely recognized for his innovative contributions to contemporary bluegrass and progressive acoustic music. Born on February 27, 1981, in Chicago, Illinois, Pikelny gained prominence as a member of the Punch Brothers, a critically acclaimed band led by mandolinist Chris Thile. Known for his virtuosic banjo playing and genre-defying style, Pikelny has released several solo albums, including Beat the Devil and Carry a Rail and Universal Favorite. He has received multiple awards, including the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass. Pikelny is celebrated for pushing the boundaries of traditional bluegrass music.
